ABOUT US

The Void is a new Philadelphia based holistic creatives collective working to empower emerging, ambitious, and unheard artists. Tired of working in product based environments, we dissent from the traditional hierarchical structure of theatre-making and lead with empathy, integrity, and investigative spirit in the pursuit of radical thought and innovation. Through artistic collaboration, we strive to build a community of independent thinkers who are actively envisioning and working toward making the work we want to see, in order to fill the void.

Created through conversations held in coffee shops, classrooms, and tiny apartments, The Void is a group of scrappy theater artists who have always wanted more from their art-making and the community surrounding it. Middle school friends, met with college classmates, turned dedicated collaborators. After years of making art separately, a week-long investigative workshop, consisting of late night brainstorming sessions, loud passionate debates, good and bad ideas, and everything in between, brought the four of us together. We decided then that we wanted to work together, to empower each other and other young artists around us, by leading with empathy and integrity in pursuit of the innovation that we wish to see in our community.

Thus “The Void” was born, in spirit at least. As students, we imagined a very different world would greet us as we entered into our post grad lives, and let’s not even get into being post grads entering into the entertainment industry. The world may be tough, but we strive to be tougher. As artists, it is our job to not let the state of our world, however bleak, stop us from creating. Rather, we take it all in and let it embolden us to not just create but to innovate. In late Spring 2020, as the world began to face unprecedented times, we decided it was time to be brave, be bold, and embrace the necessity of art. And thus, our years of planning and thinking came to fruition.
